A suspect who hacked into email accounts to steal nude photos that were later posted on a “revenge porn” website was sentenced on Nov. 16 to 25 months in federal prison.

Charles Evens, 26, of Studio City, was convicted of computer crime and identity theft charges. United States District Judge Dolly M. Gee sentenced Evens, who was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine, perform 20 hours of community service and pay $147.50 in restitution to a hacking victims. He is scheduled to begin serving the sentence on Jan. 29.

Evens pleaded guilty in July to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information for purposes of private financial gain and one count of aggravated identity theft. Gee imposed a one-month sentence for the computer hacking count and a mandatory two-year term for the identity theft count.

The operator of the website on which the photographs were posted – Hunter Moore, 29, of Woodland, California – pleaded guilty in February to the same offenses for which Evens was charged. Moore is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30.

Moore posted nude and sexually explicit photos that had been submitted without the permission of the victims. To obtain more photos for the website, Evens obtained unauthorized access into Google email accounts.

Moore sent payments to Evens in exchange for nude photos unlawfully obtained from the victims’ accounts. Moore then posted the illegally obtained photos on his website without the victims’ consent. Evens admitted that he hacked into email accounts belonging to hundreds of victims.
