The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), in partnership with Ralphs/Food 4 Less, will host the 11th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Dodger Stadium today, Nov. 19 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Special guests in attendance include Dodger Alumni League members Ron Cey, Al “The Bull” Ferrara, Matt Luke, Dennis Powell and Derrel Thomas, who will help distribute a complimentary turkey, fixings and reusable canvas bags to 1,200 pre-selected families and nonprofit community organizations that will then distribute the dinners to Los Angeles area families in need.
“Our community efforts enable us to make a difference throughout the year, but the Dodgers particularly enjoy the holiday season because it provides a forum for us to give back to those in need,” said the Dodger’s senior director for external affairs and community relations Naomi Rodriguez. “It is particularly gratifying to help make the holidays more joyful for families in our community.”
The Dodgers have partnered with the offices of Sen. Kevin de León, Councilmen Gil Cedillo and Mitch O’Farrell, Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez and Congressman Xavier Becerra for the annual turkey giveaway. The staff from each representative’s office selected organizations in their districts to benefit from the meals.
The turkey dinners are also being provided to pre-selected students in the Dodgers’ “Community of Schools,” a partnership to improve the education and wellness of children attending schools and living in communities surrounding Dodger Stadium. The LADF grantees who serve needy kids and families were also pre-selected to receive turkeys.
Volunteers from the Dodgers, neighborhood organizations and Ralphs/Food 4 Less will distribute the Thanksgiving dinners in lot P at Dodger Stadium, 1000 Elysian Park Ave. For information, visit www.dodgers.com/ladf.
