Firefighters extinguished a blaze that erupted Monday evening at the home of vocalist Johnny Mathis in the hills above the Sunset Strip.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a 911 call at 5:34 p.m. about a fire outside a residence in the 1400 block of Stebbins Terrace. LAFD spokesman Erik Scott said 41 firefighters were dispatched to the location, and found the flames had spread to the residence.

The blaze was extinguished in approximately 30 minutes and no injuries were reported. Scott said it was unclear whether anyone was home at time of the incident. Mathis arrived at the residence shortly after the fire was extinguished, according to media reports.

The cause of the fire and estimated loss to property is under investigation. Scott said the home’s location and layout presented a challenge in extinguishing the blaze.

“It can be challenging because of the winding narrow roads,” he added. “The home also has a pool in the yard that firefighters had to pass to gain access.”
