Irvin “Kip” Kipper, founder of Kip’s Toyland at the Original Farmers Market, celebrated his 99th birthday on Nov. 13. Kipper is pictured with his granddaughter Lily. Kip’s Toyland is Los Angeles’ oldest toy store, having been open for business six days a week since 1945.
“I’m beaming with joy that my grandfather, Kip, has established such a truly magical environment,” Lily said. “Being able to see several generations of loyal customers has made working at Kip’s a truly gratifying experience. Most of all, we feel luckiest to have Kip be around to see what a success his dream has become 70 years later. We wear the title of L.A.’s oldest toy store with so much pride. As the third generation Kip, I will continue to do everything in my power to make sure Kip’s Toyland stays put as well as keeps its classic charm.”
