Last week, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D – Calif.) said he was pleased that the Department of Veterans Affairs Expiring Authorities Act was passed by the United States House of Representatives and will now head to President Barack Obama’s desk.
The legislation incorporates Lieu’s HR 1543 and HR 2934 – bills that are intended to serve veterans in the 33rd District and around the country.
HR 1534 includes seismic corrections to the West Los Angeles Medical Center, which is at high risk of sustaining damage during an earthquake. HR 2934, the Department of Veterans Affairs Expiring Authorities Act, includes reauthorizing the Advisory Committee on Homeless Veterans – part of the national campaign to address veterans’ homelessness.
“No woman or man who has fought for their country in uniform should have to fight for a roof over their heads or food on their tables,” Lieu said. “Since 2001, the VA’s Advisory Committee on Homeless Veterans has provided valuable analysis of the VA’s efforts while advocating for additional resources from HUD-VASH vouchers to funds for local partnership programs that house Veterans.”
Lieu added that he will work with the House and Senate Committees on Veterans’ Affairs to reauthorize the programs to run longer.
