Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer’s Office has filed a probation violation against the Hollywood Supper Club after the operators allegedly continued to violate multiple conditions of the city zoning code.
The nightclub, located at 6675 Hollywood Blvd., has been cited numerous times over the past years for failing to fix fire and life safety hazards.
“Hollywood’s Entertainment District has a vibrant and thriving nightlife. To keep it that way, all venues must comply with laws designed to protect their patrons and the broader public,” Feuer said. “Our office will continue to hold establishments accountable if they violate the law.”
In September 2013, the Hollywood Supper Club entered a no contest plea to violations of overcrowding, use of open flame, use of structure without a permit, illegal wiring, obstructed exits and storage of combustible materials. The judge placed the company on 36 months probation and ordered that $2,000 in fines be paid.
Subsequent investigations by the Los Angeles Police Department in June allegedly identified multiple ongoing municipal code problems in violation of the business’ conditional use permit. Alleged violations include allowing long lines outside, smoking on the premises, alcohol service in non-permitted areas, failing to remove unapproved structures on the property and blocking open exits.
“Prior to being sworn into office, City Attorney Mike Feuer and I discussed public safety in our communities, and we will continue our collaborative work as we strive to make Hollywood a world-class neighborhood,” said Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District.
The original charges against the Hollywood Supper Club stem from multiple incidents, including one on June 17, 2012 when Los Angeles Fire Department inspectors shut down the club after observing more than 1,000 patrons in a building in which the safe occupancy is 553 people. In addition to overcrowding, the club allegedly had illegal fireworks and had used bedding as seating. Other violations include a trapeze artist swinging from the ceiling over the overcrowded dance floor, exits that were blocked and fire doors that were propped open.
A probation violation hearing for the club’s owners has been scheduled on Oct. 20 in Department 47 of the Los Angeles Superior Court.
