Cantor Alexander Berkovich will offer a musical sampling of popular High Holy Days melodies on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Hollywood Temple Beth El. The music will be presented during services, which begin at 9:45 a.m.
Berkovich was a noted opera singer in his native St. Petersberg, Russia, and sang during services at the Choral Synagogue. He was ordained as cantor by the Academy of Jewish Religion and has conducted Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at Hollywood Temple Beth El since 2010.
Rabbi Norbert Weinberg, an educator and writer, serves as the spiritual leader of the congregation and will outline the significance of the prayers behind the melodies the cantor will perform.
The public is invited to join the service. Temple Beth El is located at 1317 N Crescent Heights Blvd., in West Hollywood. For information, call (323)656-3150, or email to temple@htbel.org.
