Coffee and tea lovers can enjoy new 12-ounce specialty fall harvest beverages for only $2 today, Sept. 10, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations. The special flavors will be served through Sunday, Nov. 31, and include salted butterscotch with rich notes of buttery caramel and the subtle flavor of salt; nostalgic classic pumpkin with nutmeg and cinnamon spice; and creamy pumpkin chai. Jackson’s Food + Drink in El Segundo
Jackson’s Food + Drink is celebrating its third anniversary today, Sept. 10 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with an exclusive “3 x 3 x 3” happy hour menu offering a choice of three signature bites and three classic drinks for $3 each. Ventura County Taste of Local Expo
Ventura’s epicurean event of the season will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. at California State University Channel Islands. The expo showcases chefs emphasizing locally sourced produce, as well as premier local wineries, breweries, distillers, purveyors, farmers and vendors that support the Ventura County agricultural industry. Cooking class at The Bonaventure
Cooking enthusiasts can join The Westin Bonaventure Hotel’s executive chef Jose Velasquez and executive sous chef Ali Parvinjah on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. for a Pacific Rim cooking class. The class features an 80-pound Hawaiian moon fish – also known as opah – which will be prepared three ways, incorporating fusion cuisine with the flavors of Japan, Korea and the traditional flavors of Hawaii. The chefs will guide students as they prepare their meals, which will be enjoyed at the chef’s table and paired with a wine tasting. Seating is limited to 30 participants 21 and older. Celebrate Rosh Hashanah at Jar
Jar is offering a Rosh Hashanah prix-fixe menu on Sunday, Sept. 13 and Tuesday, Sept. 15, in addition to its regular menu. The special menu features apple celery salad and soup du jour, as well as main dishes such as Jar’s signature pot roast with carrots and caramelized onions, and Lake Superior white fish with butter beans and cipollini onions. Side dishes are served family style and include roasted yams, carrots, brandied prunes and challah bread and butter. Umami Burger artist series
In collaboration with actress and author Mindy Kaling, Umami Burger is serving its Mindy Burger for $13 in September, benefitting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. The Mindy Burger features Umami Burger’s signature beef patty topped with pickled jalapeños, fried onion strings and house-made sriracha aioli, and served on Umami Burger’s signature bun. Additionally, Umami Burger is serving hard root beer floats. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network provides resources and education for patients and families. The downstairs alcove of the Venice Whaler has a new look, culinary team and bar program. Executive chef Nick Liberato’s new dining menu includes Maine lobster roll served on fresh brioche; meaty crab cakes; grilled ahi tuna sandwiches; and spicy and refreshing shrimp ceviche served on house-made tostadas. His new shrimp po’boy features crispy beer-battered shrimp. Pizzas include Da Kine, a twist on Hawaiian pizza with ham, pineapple and jalapeño; and the Hot Mamacita, with cream sauce, Fresno chiles, sausage, garlic, onion and cilantro. New dessert options include Baked in Venice, a play on baked Alaska with burnt meringue-coated sponge cake, ice cream and raspberry coulis; and classic chocolate profiterole cream puffs filled with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. USC and Dog Haus
The Dog Haus’ hot dogs and sausages will be served at home games throughout the USC football season near gate 16 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Dog Haus will serve its Long Snap dogs with cheese sauce, bacon and green onions; chicken sausages with buffalo sauce, blue cheese and crumbled barbecue chips; and Thai Breakers made with spicy Thai sausages, peanut sauce, crushed peanuts and toasted coconut.
