The Santa Monica Playhouse Education Conservatory presents its “Fall Theatre Workshop: Play Production & Musical Theatre” classes for students ages 4-17.
The classes begin in October, but parents are encouraged to enroll their children early. A play production class for students ages 7-12 will be held, as well as an early stages workshop for students ages 4-6, and a teen workshop for students 12-17.
The workshops, now in their 46th year, meet weekly after school or on weekends. They help students expand their imagination and have fun as they act, sing, dance, play theatre games, improvise and more. Students also work with costumes and make-up, lighting, sound, sets, props and collaborate with professional playwrights and directors to create a staged original production with music.
“Every child is challenged to be the best they can be,” said Serena Dolinsky, a theatre artist and the playhouse’s director of education. “Young people explore all aspects of theatre, creating a true ensemble, where every young actor is an important part of the process. Students work together to create an original, full-length theatre piece they perform for family, friends and the public at the end of each session.”
