El Nido Family Centers is holding its “Garden Gala” on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the historic Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills. The gala will focus on the organization’s history, collaboration and partnerships, and will raise funds for services provided to more than 10,000 families, youth and children each year. Youth who benefit from the services will be joined by professional mentors in the culinary and art communities at the gala.
El Nido Family Centers recently launched its “Garden to Table” program, which provides training and mentorship in the culinary industry through urban gardening, cooking and restaurant management. Youth in the program will assist with cooking demonstrations helping Los Angeles chefs who have served as mentors. Students from El Nido’s urban gardening program will also offer home gardening tips and guidelines from the Robinson Gardens’ edible garden.
Chefs and restaurants donating time and acting as mentors include Hannah An, founder and executive chef of The District by Hannah An; Betty Fraser and Denise DeCarlo, co-owners of Grub Restaurant and As You Like It Catering; Ryan Legaux, owner and executive chef of Harold & Belle’s; Nabor Prado-Diaz, chef de cuisine for Hugo’s; and Jimmy Shaw, owner and executive chef of Loteria Grill.
Honorees at the gala will include actress Gina Rodriguez, Kaiser Permanente and The Harold Edelstein Foundation. Tickets are $250. Robinson Gardens is located at 1008 Elden Way, Beverly Hills. For information, visit www.elnidofamilycenters.org.
