A 20-year-old man died after a fight in a Hollywood nightclub on Aug. 22. Police have released information about the crime and are seeking help in identifying suspects.
Police were called at approximately 12:45 a.m. about a fight the Cashmere Club, located at 1707 N. McCadden Place, just north of Hollywood Boulevard. The victim, identified as Jose Silva-Nieves, of Maywood, collapsed after being involved in the fight. Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Det. Steven Katz, with the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit, said investigators are awaiting a report from the coroner’s office about the official cause of death, but the incident is being investigated as a homicide. Police found the victim unresponsive at the scene, and tests are being conducted by the coroner’s office to determine if the victim died from injuries sustained in the fight and if there were other factors.
Katz said surveillance camera footage from the nightclub showed the victim and multiple individuals involved in the fight. Police are unable to determine exactly who injured the victim, and no motive has been established.
“It was a dispute in a nightclub that escalated into a physical altercation,” Katz said. “There were several people involved. We are still interviewing witnesses. It’s not indicative of who the suspect is in the video.”
Katz said he is unaware of any additional incidents at the nightclub. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact investigators at (213)382-9470.
