City National Bank and its associates collected more than 1,150 backpacks filled with school supplies in August as part of its 6th annual Back-to-School Supplies Drive.

The bank is donating the backpacks to 37 elementary schools and four nonprofit organizations in California and four other states. In Los Angeles, the backpacks will go to Carthay Center Elementary; the Assistance League of Los Angeles, Hollywood; Atwater Elementary; Academia Moderna Charter School; Magnolia Avenue School; Metro Charter Elementary; Solano Elementary; and 10th Street Elementary.

This year’s donations surpassed the 2014 school supplies drive by more than 24 percent.

“Helping students succeed in the classroom is at the heart of our back to school supplies drive,” said Jennifer Nickerson, vice president and community relations manager for City National Bank. “Research shows that with the proper tools and resources, students will thrive in the classroom if given the opportunity.”

The school supplies include erasers, highlighters, round-tip scissors, packs of wide ruled paper, colored pencils, folders, notebooks, pencil sharpeners, rulers, boxes of crayons, glue sticks, pencils and more.

Additionally, the bank is providing information on its City National’s Dollars + Sense financial literacy program to students at the schools receiving backpack donations. City National started its financial literacy program in 2007 as an enhancement to its Reading is The Way Up literacy program. The Dollars + Sense program is for students in grades K-12, and teaches age appropriate information about banking and finance.
