City Attorney Mike Feuer today announced the conviction of a man dressed as the “Joker” for disrupting business at a retail store on Hollywood Boulevard.
“Millions of visitors come from around the world to Hollywood and my office is focused on making sure that their experience is a safe one,” Feuer said.
On Aug. 27, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a store manager for LALA Land – a souvenir store in the Hollywood Entertainment District – observed a male dressed as the “Joker” from the “Batman” movie hiding behind a floor display. The manager watched the man jump from behind the display in an attempt to scare customers. When the manager approached the man to ask him to leave, he responded with profanities and then pushed the manager twice on the chest with both hands.
Jose Luis Garcia, 28, was convicted of one-count of intentional interference with a business establishment and sentenced to 10 days in jail; ordered not to own, use, or possess dangerous weapons or use force or violence against any person; 36 months of summary probation; and to stay a minimum of 100 yards away from the Hollywood Entertainment District.
Deputy City Attorney Jackie Lawson prosecuted the case.
Feuer’s office has prosecuted 12 individuals who, dressed as popular movie characters, have committed crimes in the district.
