California State Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia), chair of the labor and industrial relations committee announced his appointment by Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Leon to the California Commission on Economic Development (CED).

“I look forward to working with labor, business, and other stakeholders to promote a strong and healthy economy that creates well-paying jobs for the people of our state,” Mendoza said.

The CED was established in 1971.  It is a statewide, bipartisan advisory commission chaired by Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and comprised of seventeen members, six of whom are members of the California Legislature and ten are members of the public.

CED asseses specific specific regional or local economic development problems and makes recommendations for solving problems. The commission provides a forum for ongoing dialogue on economic issues between state government and the private sector. The members recommend legislation to require evaluation of ongoing economic development projects and programs to ensure continued cost effectiveness.
