Rosewood Elementary School for Advanced Studies – home of the Huskies – is gearing up for a busy and exciting 2015/16 school year, and is welcoming Hancock Park families to its transitional kindergarten (TK) class.

Rosewood was a pilot school for the TK program, with teacher, Mrs. Miller, leading the program since 2010. Another outstanding academic and social year is planned as students enter the second year of the school’s writing program, and a campaign is launched for a new media lab. The school plans to integrate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lessons, rehearse for a production of “The Sound of Music”, and more.

The 2015/16 events begin on Saturday, Aug. 15. Parents of English learners are invited to a master plan instructional options meeting at 9 a.m., and a uniform sale will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school’s main lobby. A 6th grade student/parent meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the school’s auditorium, at which expectations for the school year will be outlined, as well as the 6th grade trip to Catalina.

The TK, kindergarten and new student orientation begins at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The orientation is intended for parents and students and will offer information about Rosewood programs. TK and kindergarten students will be tested at the meeting.

Additionally, a back-to-school picnic, softball game (adults vs. staff) and bingo will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rosewood schoolyard. The event is sponsored by Friends of Rosewood, the school’s booster club. Participants are invited to bring a picnic or can purchase lunch from food trucks at the event.
