Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division are trying to determine what happened to a victim who was found unconscious on Aug. 9 on the ground near Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue in Koreatown.
The victim, identified as Giovanni Medina, 23, was located at approximately 4 a.m. by a passerby, according to police. The fire department was called, and paramedics found the victim suffering from blunt force trauma to the head. Medina was taken to a hospital, where he remained as of Wednesday.
Det. John Skaggs, with the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit, said homicide detectives were initially called to the scene because it was believed the victim would not survive.
The victim is currently listed in critical but stable condition, and the case has been assigned to detectives with the Olympic Division’s major assault crimes unit.
Police are still trying to determine a motive. Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives with the Olympic Division at (213)382-6628. During weekends and off-hours, call the LAPD’s 24-hour hotline at (877)LAPD247.
