The Annenberg Space for Photography and KCRW present an installment of their “Sound in Focus” series on Saturday, Aug. 8 in Century Park in Century City.

The free, all-ages series is curated by KCRW music director Jason Bentley, and will feature performance by Dwight Yoakam and X. KCRW DJ Gary Calamar hosts the evening and spins music before the concert. Doors open at 5 p.m., and music begins at 7 p.m.

Grammy Award winner Yoakam is a legend of contemporary honky-tonk country music. Popular since the early 1980s, he has recorded more than 21 albums, charted more than 30 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, and sold more than 25 million records. With his latest release, “Second Hand Heart”, Yoakam continues to deliver a sound that encompasses a range of influences, including bluegrass, punk, rock-n-roll and Americana roots music.

The groundbreaking quartet known as X formed during the first wave of American punk music in the late 1970s. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut single was released in 1978, and was followed by seven studio albums.

The entire original lineup hopes to return for the show, however it was recently announced that Zoom is currently undergoing treatment for bladder cancer. Zoom hopes to perform at this show, but if he is not able, Texan guitarist Jesse Dayton will stand-in for him.
