Officers shot and wounded a man armed with a knife in Hollywood on June 10 after the suspect confronted police.
Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jack Richter said officers received a 911 call at approximately 4:15 p.m. about a man near the corner of Sycamore and Lexington avenues who was waiving a knife and acting erratically. The arriving officers ordered the man to drop the knife, and he ignored their orders, Richter said. The suspect advanced toward the officers with a knife and was shot.
Richter said the suspect was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition. The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
Richter said it is unclear whether the suspect was under the influence, and no information was available about his identity. Police recovered a knife at the scene.
“What I can tell you is that he exhibited erratic behavior and was armed with a knife,” Richter said. “It could have been a deadly situation.”
