A driver was killed early Monday morning in Beverly Hills after he crashed into a center divider on La Cienega Boulevard.
The victim was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML series SUV southbound on La Cienega Boulevard when the vehicle struck the center divider at Gregory Way and erupted in flames at approximately 2:30 a.m. No other people were injured.
It was not immediately clear whether the driver was speeding, according to police.
Although the driver has been identified, the Beverly Hills Police Department is not releasing his name until next of kin is notified, according to Lt. Lincoln Hoshino.
“The crash is still under investigation,” Hoshino said.
La Cienega Boulevard was closed from approximately 2:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.
The body was badly burned, according to Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office spokesperson Ed Winter.
Police initially began identifying the victim using the vehicle’s license plate, according to Hoshino. The investigation will most likely take months, he added.
