12U Warriors
Warriors 12U brought home the Championship Trophy in the Big League Field of Dreams Spring Tournament. They went 4 and 0 over the weekend, besting teams from the Inland Empire, The Valley and Arizona. Game one resulted in a 14 to 5, Mercy Rule victory with Pitcher, Shawn Joo striking out 4 batters in only two innings and going 3 for 3 at the plate. Alexander Saul pitched the last three innings, holding them to only three runs. Saul also went 2 for 3 with an RBI double in the seven-run fifth inning. Kai Moran hit another home run and walked twice. Leadoff man, Boon Fay was 2 for 2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly and Jake Miller went 2 for 3 with a Triple. In game two, The Warriors took a 6 to 1 lead into the bottom of the fourth, when ATP battled back to get three runs, cutting the lead to two. The Warriors made the most of their half of the inning by scoring 2 runs on two walks by Aidan Khare and Kai Moran, 3 stolen bases and two clutch sacrifice bunts by Shawn Joo and Kenneth Chung. As the number two seed, The Warriors needed to win two on Sunday to bring home the Trophy. Game one featured a rematch with ATP where Aidan Khare allowed 4 runs and struck out seven over three innings. Teagan Disharoon finished ATP off with two innings of great pitching, allowing no runs and finishing the game with a 6-pitch inning. Kai Moran went 2 for 3 and scored twice. Jake Miller, Ava Yood Howard and Teagan Disharoon all singled and scored. In the Championship game, Warriors faced the #1 seed, Inland Empire Rough Riders. The Warriors only needed one run, which came in the third inning after Yood Howard walked, she stole second and third on two pitches and then clutch-hitter Boon Fay smoked single to center to bring her home.
11U Warriors Blue Team
Warriors 11U Blue (7-2-1) beat ASAP 10-0 in Mid-Valley League play last Sunday in a game in which a quarter of the team was absent because they were playing in a tournament with the 12U Warriors. The 11U Warriors Team recorded 13 hits, three of them doubles, with no errors and a very efficient 39 pitches thrown over four innings. Right fielder Cole Quigley led the run production with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Pitcher/outfielder Connor Rice went three-for-three, and third baseman Joey Wetherbee, catcher Braden Lowe and shortstop Aidan Forte each had two hits. At shortstop, Forte stole two hits from ASAP. Rice recorded the win on the mound, with reliever Will Richardson getting the save in a combined one-hitter.
10U Warriors Blue Team
The Warriors suffered a tough 2-0 loss to the Dirtbags — the 2014 Pony National Champions — in a Mid-Valley League game last Sunday. Pitcher Tanner Mahon struck out seven batters and give up three hits over three shutout innings. T.K. Overhauser got the win in relief for the Dirtbags. Overhauser pitched two-and-two-thirds innings and allowed no runs. Pitcher Diego Marin also took to the mound for the Warrior 10U Blue Team, taking the loss. He lasted two-and-two-thirds innings, walked two and struck out one batter, and allowed two runs on four hits. 10U Warriors Orange Team
After going down two runs in the top of the first inning, the Warriors 10U Orange team exploded for six first-inning runs and held on for a 7-6 win over the S.O. Vipers last Sunday at VCAA field. It was the team’s first victory of the season. The Warriors 10U Orange Team scored in the first inning on three passed balls, an error and an RBI single by Jake Pace. The S.O. Vipers scored on two RBI singles in the second inning and a passed ball, and an RBI single in the fourth inning. The Warriors would not relinquish the lead as the S.O. Vipers were unable to overcome the four-run first inning deficit. Excellent base running kept the Warriors in scoring position with Carter Hampson and Zander Meyerson each having two stolen bases. Hampson had two hits to lead the team, and Jake Pace and Aron Jung both slugged RBIs. The pitching of Max Kim, Aron Jung, Hampson and Meyerson kept the Vipers from rallying back as they sealed the victory by one run.
9U Warriors Blue Team
The 9U Warriors suffered a tough loss against the So-Cal Beast by a score of 11-10 in a close Mid-Valley League contest last Sunday. The Warriors (3-3) came out swinging and put up six runs on The Beast in the first inning, with big hits from Joseph Norris, Devin Aure, Ben Eisendrath and Emmett Showers. Luther Tostrud made two dazzling catches at shortstop, and Graham Turner pitched two solid innings. But The Beast clawed their way back and took an 11-10 lead in the fifth inning. With the clock ticking and Ty Malloy pitching a shutout inning, the umpire called the game with two outs due to time restraints. Warriors Coach Dave “Boomer” Evans is looking forward to next week’s Mid-Valley League re-match against the Terror, who handed the Warriors their first lost.
9U Warriors Orange Team
The first-year Warriors 9U Orange team (0-5) are suffering through a predictably tough first year of Mid-Valley League play, but were heartened to be neck-in-neck with a score of 2-2 after two innings last Sunday against one of the Mid-Valley League’s superior teams, Toluca Lake’s Thunder. Ultimately, a disastrous seven-run third inning led to an eventual 18-4 loss. But the strong start, led by the baffling pitching of starter Cutter East, represented a definite sign of improvement for the developing club. East allowed no earned runs, with the Warriors surviving a three-error second inning with a catch out of left field by Shane Rice, who then doubled up a runner at second base. Luca Ruggiero and Samuel Hahn continue to put their stamps on the respective shortstop and third base positions for the Warriors, while Reece Frankel is providing Orange stability at catcher, making a great catch of a foul ball in the fourth inning, and holding numerous Thunder runners at bay.
8U Warriors
The Warriors fell to 0-5 with a tough 14-8 loss to PBA. All four 8U Warrior pitchers (Jackson Eisenhauer, Edward Maxam, Matthew Hoegee and Beckett Hutchens) had strong outings. However, some defensive miscues led to PBA’s runs. On offense, the Warriors pounded the ball, with Chase Landa, Jack Laffitte, Nate Severy and Declan O’Malley delivering clutch hits, and Edward Maxam launching a bomb to deep right field.
