The 9th annual “West Hollywood Women’s Leadership Conferenc: Knowledge.Power.Community.” will run from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 3.The conference provides tools and support for women to become successful leaders in their private lives, business and the community. This year’s conference offers expanded programming over three days.
It starts with a breakfast titled “Getting to Next: Advancing Successfully in Your Career or Business” on Friday, May 1 from 8 to 10 a.m. in the West Hollywood City Council Chambers 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. Suggested donation is $10. The official free kick-off event for the conference will be held on Friday, May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theatre, 8687 Melrose Ave. Participants can join the West Hollywood City Council and guest speakers such as attorney and women’s rights advocate Sandra Fluke at the event. An exclusive screening of “The Hunting Ground”, by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, will be held.
The film is an exposé of sexual assault on U.S. campuses, institutional cover-ups and the social toll on victims and their families.
The conference continues on May from 9 to 5 p.m. with leadership panels and workshops in West Hollywood Park, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.
The event includes a continental breakfast, speakers, informative panels, expert-led trainings, an exhibitor area and keynote luncheon. Advance tickets are $35. The conference resumes on Sunday, May 3 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. A free screening will be held of “She’s Beautiful When’ She’s Angry”, focusing on the founders of the modern women’s movement from 1966 to 1971, including the founding of the National Organization for Women (NOW).
Chitra Panjabi, vice president of membership for NOW, will give the keynote speech. A panel discussion with women rights advocates will also be held, followed by a special “Call to Action” reception. For information, call (323) 848-6460, or email wlc@weho.org.
