The Youth Academy Of Dramatic Arts (YADA) and Third Street Theatre are holding a “Spring Break Improv Camp” running from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10. A session for children ages 6 to 9 runs from 9 a.m. to noon, and a session for children ages 10 and older runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Improv is for everyone, including children aspiring to be actors and those seeking a life-enriching and fun activity during spring break. Participating students will become more spontaneous, creative, playful and imaginative while developing valuable theater and interpersonal skills. YADA improv instructors have decades of experience in helping children find their voices, gain confidence and think creatively.
The day camp is hosted by YADA and held at the Third Street Theater, 8115 W. 3rd St. Classes will introduce students to the fundamentals of improvisation in a supportive and encouraging environment. Through exercises and games, students will learn the basic skills of improv and have fun developing their spontaneity, playfulness, imagination and confidence.
The camp will end with a showcase performance in YADA’s 99-seat theater. YADA showcases are often attended by casting directors, agents and managers. Parents are invited to enjoy the fun comedy show performed by the children.
Located in the historic Dupree Dance building on West 3rd Street, YADA offers a safe and exciting environment for young people to learn and grow in theatrical performance. Classes are based on age and ability, catering to children from 5 to 17 years of age with primary through master courses. The staff includes designers, directors, choreographers, musical directors, stage managers and running crew members who help create special, professional performances by students. Alumni include “90210’s” Lily Collins and “Mad Men’s” Kiernan Shipka.
No prior experience is necessary for the camp. The cost is $250. Class size is limited and fills up quickly. For information and registration, visit http://j.mp/YADAimprov or http://www.yada.org/#!__improv.
