“Illumetric”, Los Angeles-based artist Shana Mabari’s triptych of massive diamond and rectangle shaped acrylic sculptures on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood gets an extended run. Presented by the city of West Hollywood and its arts and cultural affairs commission as part of the “Art On The Outside” public art program, “Illumetric” was installed in the summer of 2014 with a one-year duration. The city has announced that the project will be continued through the end of 2015.
Mabari consulted extensively with legendary Southern California fabricator Jack Brogan on preliminary fabrication and design for her sculptures, which lights up nightly at sundown via internal LED illumination.
Mabari, whose body of work is in the continuing tradition of the Light and Space movement that originated in California in the 1960s, also has pieces featured in two upcoming exhibitions.
The Culver City gallery FP Contemporary will show two-and three-dimensional pieces by Mabari at its Saturday, April 25 opening. The opening and artists’ reception, from 6 to 8 p.m., features a solo exhibition by painter Dirk De Bruycker as well.
“I’m honored to be showing work at FP Contemporary for the first time,” Mabari said. “And I’m very much looking forward to installing work at the Museum of Art & History (MOAH). It’s exciting to be involved with the arts scene that is emerging in the high desert.”
