Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash and other superheroes made an appearance at Hollywood & Highland last Saturday afternoon to be part of history.
Thousands of fans gathered around the world to be part of the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as DC Comics superheroes. The international event was organized by Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment, owner of the largest English-language-based comic book publisher, DC Comics.
The record was set at the event at Hollywood & Highland, which ended a worldwide superhero gathering held that same day.
Guinness World Records has not yet released the exact number of participants in their official tally in the next several weeks.
The 24-hour worldwide event began in Queensland, Australia and closed in Los Angeles.
Superhero fans participated in places such as Manila, Taiwan, Madrid, Rome, London and Mexico City.
“The event was done in celebration of the first superhero story on April 18,” said Warner Bros. Consumer Product spokesperson Emily Erskine.
The story of Superman first appeared in June 1938 in Action Comics, the precursor to DC Comics.
Superman went on to become one of the company’s most famous superheroes. DC Comics is also credited with introducing Batman in May 1939 in Detective Comics, another precursor to DC Comics.
Hundreds of DC Comics superhero fans showed up at Hollywood & Highland, exceeding the minimum participation of 25 individuals in each country.
In order for the Guinness World Record to be set, every participant had to remain at the participating event for a minimum of five minutes.
“Batman in Los Angeles was the most popular superhero. But it varied around the world,” Erskine said.
DC Comics superheroes include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Batgirl, Supergirl, Aquaman, Cyborg, Robin and Green Arrow.
