Two people were critically injured during an early morning collision on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood on April 5 that police believe may have been caused by a drunk driver.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Larrabee Street, said Sgt. Richard Bowman, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. The driver of a late model Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan was traveling westbound when the vehicle drifted into the eastbound lanes and was involved in a head-on collision with a Range Rover SUV. The driver of the Mercedes Benz and his passenger were critically injured, and remain hospitalized.

“It was pretty serious,” Bowman said. “We are thinking alcohol was involved. We are still investigating.”

Bowman said the driver of the Range Rover was not injured. He added that there is a curve on Sunset Boulevard prior to the scene of the collision, which may have also been a factor. No further information was available about the occupants of the vehicle.

“Based on the physical evidence, we are pretty confident about what happened,” Bowman said.
