Longtime K-Earth 101 DJ and Park La Brea resident “Shotgun Tom” Kelly was honored on March 27 by Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters (PPB) with the Art Gilmore Career Achievement Award during a ceremony at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City.
Kelly (bottom, second from right) is seated with Robert David Hall, Kerri Kasem and PPB board chair Jeanne DeVivier Brown, and was joined by Harold Greene PPB president Chuck Street, Gary Bryan, Lou Waters, Neil Ross, Tim Conway, Jr. and Jhani Kaye. Radio personality and television host Wink Martindale was also honored with the Diamond Circle Award.
Hundreds of Kelly’s colleagues reminisced with him at the ceremony. Kaye, Kelly’s former boss at K-EARTH 101, created a 13-minute video that traced his life and career, from gawking youngster watching a San Diego DJ in a glass radio booth to his recent successes as the afternoon drive time DJ on K-Earth 101.
Kelly also received a star from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.
