Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, 13th District, took the lead on a presentation during city council on March 25 to recognize Pulitzer-nominated author Luis Alberto Urrea and Los Angeles Poet Laureate Luis Rodriguez.

The Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) is marking its seventh year of producing the Big Read Program in L.A., with Urrea’s novel, “Into the Beautiful North”.

As part of this arts education initiative, the city council declared April as Literacy and Poetry Month, also celebrating the DCA’s reading program.
