The Skirball Cultural Center presents an exhibit titled “Rock & Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip” running from Tuesday, March 24 through Sunday, Aug. 16.

More than 20 photographs of hand-painted billboards that dominated the Los Angeles landscape for almost two decades will be displayed in the Skirball’s Ruby Gallery.

The exhibit brings to life a unique period in the history of rock & roll and the fabled Sunset Strip. Photographer Robert Landau traces the billboard phenomenon from the breakthrough promotion for the debut album by The Doors in 1967, to the advent of MTV in the 1980s.

Additionally, professional billboard painter Enrique Vidal has covered an entire gallery wall with a large-scale mural of Jerry Garcia’s guitar “Wolf”, which is currently on display in the upcoming accompanying exhibition, “Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution”.
