The Los Angeles Police Department was called to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s home in Windsor Square on Monday just after 5 p.m. after witnesses noticed a suspicious package nearby.

Helicopters, firefighters and police responded and checked a suspicious suitcase left unattended near the mayor’s home at 6th Street and South Irving Boulevard. According to reports, Garcetti, his wife, Amy Wakeland, and their daughter were not home during the incident.

Garcetti lives at the Getty House, which is the official residence of the Los Angeles mayor. He and his family moved there in November 2013.

Irving Boulevard residents were not immediately able to get to their homes, but were eventually allowed to go through after 6:30 p.m.

South Irving Boulevard and sections of 6th Street were closed as a precaution, according to police at the scene. Police on scene did not confirm if the bomb squad was called. However, several reports showed bomb squad members carrying off the suitcase, which was later found to contain clothing.
