Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, District 3, this week hailed President Barack Obama’s proposed Fiscal Year budget, which includes money for several major transportation projects in Los Angeles.
The proposed budget includes $100 million for Segment 2 of the Metro Purple Line subway extension. Segment 2 is a 2.62-mile stretch between planned stations at the intersections of Wilshire/La Cienega and Avenue of the Stars/Constellation in Century City, and includes a midpoint station at Wilshire/Rodeo.
The proposed budget also includes $115 million toward the full funding agreement for Segment 1.
Currently under construction, Segment 1 will extend from the existing Wilshire/Western station to the new Wilshire/La Cienega station, along with stations at Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Fairfax.
The budget also earmarks $115 million for the Regional Connector, a 1.9-mile subway through downtown Los Angeles that will directly connect the Gold and Blue light rail lines, eliminating passengers’ current inconvenience of having to transition on and off the Metro Red Line subway.
