Mayor Eric Garcetti recently announced his “Greenlight Hollywood” campaign, an industry led effort targeting studio greenlight committees and talent agencies to promote Los Angeles as a destination for physical production. The program follows legislation that triples the state’s film tax credit — AB 1839 — and will take place in March and April, ahead of the new film tax credit program’s launch.
The “Greenlight Hollywood” campaign will recruit and deploy entertainment professionals to identity film and TV productions in the planning stages that would be most beneficial to L.A.’s economy if produced in the city. The representatives would then contact the productions — through studio greenlight committees — and make the case for filming in L.A., including new financial incentives and reduced bureaucracy.
“Our entertainment industry is essential to our city’s identity and economy and this campaign represents the next step in a strategic agenda to ensure Los Angeles remains the entertainment capital of the world,” Garcetti said. “Now that we’ve won a tripling of the film tax credit and are cutting red tape at city hall, we’re launching this campaign to make sure decision makers understand all of the incentives we can provide for filming in L.A.”
The team is comprised of production executives from Screen Gems, DeLaurentiis, Bad Robot and RatPac; trade executives from FilmLA and Film Independent; labor union leaders from Teamsters and IATSE; and studio facility/post production executives from Sunset Gower, Raleigh, AECG and Mack Sennett.
