Last Thursday, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Superintendent Ramon Cortines expressed frustration regarding salary negotiations with the local teacher’s union, United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA).
LAUSD officials said that the district and UTLA remain $800 million apart. The next bargaining dates have been scheduled through the end of March.
“I’m very disappointed in UTLA’s unwillingness to accept our responsible offer,” Cortines said. “We are dealing with a budget that has had a deficit for three years and we are trying to balance it.
