An unknown suspect set an automatic teller machine (ATM) on fire outside a fast food eatery in West Hollywood on Feb. 6, and police have classified the incident as arson.
The fire was reported at approximately 5:15 a.m. outside L.A. Buns & Co. at 8787 Santa Monica Blvd., near Palm Avenue. Police and firefighters arrived to find a small fire burning around at the ATM.
Lt. Mike White, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, said it is unclear whether someone was attempting to burglarize the ATM, or if there was another motive. He said it was a free-standing ATM outside the eatery, which was closed when the fire occurred. No money is believed to have been taken from the machine, and it is unknown exactly how the fire was started.
“The damage was confined to the area around the machine,” White added. “It doesn’t appear that anything else was damaged.”
Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at (310)855-8850.
