The Miracle Mile Civic Coalition, First-In Fire Foundation and the ARTery, USA held their annual “Good Hearts Awards” ceremony on Feb. 12 in the historic May Company building on the campus of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which currently houses an exhibit from the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The ceremony followed the theme, “In the Spirit of Cooperation,” and awards were presented to Councilman Tom LaBonge, 4th District; Tim Deegan, formerly of LACMA; and Los Angeles Fire Department deputy chief Daren Palacios (pictured at right). Palacios, who was joined in the photograph by firefighters, “Valentine angel” Zoey Guzin, 9, and members of the First-In Fire Foundation board, heads the LAFD’s newly-created South Bureau, which includes the Miracle Mile and surrounding area. He is credited with championing community/fire department partnerships. Deegan was recognized for his leadership and dedication benefiting Museum Row, and LaBonge received the first “Great Heart Award” for lifetime achievement in public service.
