The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) presents the return of its “First Fridays” series on Friday, Feb. 6 from 5 to 10 p.m. Participants can tour the museum, enjoy music and learn about the people who are creating tomorrow’s scientific community.

Special tours titled “Finding L.A.’s Hidden Wildlife One Photo at a Time”, with Lila Higgins, manager of NHM Citizen Science, will be held at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. Through the citizen science program, people can begin to explore uncharted territory, and can make extraordinary discoveries.

A discussion titled “Taking Control of Your World — Citizen Science Activism”, with citizen science expert Sam Droege, will be held at 6 p.m. The discussion will be moderated by Michael W. Quick, Ph.D., of the Department of Biological Sciences, and executive vice provost and vice president for academic affairs for the University of Southern California.

A new “Conversation Science Salon” series begins at 7:30 p.m. with a program titled “With the Nerd Brigade”.

The Nerd Brigade is group with diverse backgrounds in science and science communication whose members believe in the power of wonder.

Music and entertainment will be provided by KCRW DJ Raul Campos and special guest, Mr. Pauer; Quitapenas; Tom Vek and Robert DeLong.
