International artists will perform a Chinese classical and traditional folk program to celebrate Lunar New Year on Friday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis).
The Wallis is celebrating the Year Of The Sheep with a performance by international artist Rueibin Chen and the Chinese ensemble L’Ensemble du Ciel. The artists will perform for students on Jan. 30 at 11 a.m., and at a fundraising benefit on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The two events bring eastern and western cultures together, and those who live and travel both east and west across greater Los Angeles. Many of the participating students have never experienced traditional Chinese culture and music.
The concert will begin with a solo performance by Chen that will feature, among other pieces, an excerpt from the “Yellow River Concerto”. Chen will then join L’Ensemble du Ciel for a performance of traditional and folk music from different Chinese ethnic regions, featuring the world premiere of several new musical arrangements.
The Wallis is also hosting a fundraising benefit on Jan. 31. A pre-concert cocktail party begins at 5 p.m., a Lunar New Year concert begins at 6:30 p.m., and the evening concluded with an “Imperial Dinner and Chinese Feast”. The black tie celebration takes place at The Wallis, 9390 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills. Tickets start at $500. For information, call (310)246-3800, or visit www.thewallis.org.
