A female suspect was arrested on Jan. 22 in West Hollywood for allegedly stabbing a jogger near the intersection of Sweetzer and Fountain avenues.
The stabbing occurred at approximately 11:05 a.m. as the unidentified victim waited for a light at the intersection. The suspect was also waiting at the signal, and allegedly stabbed the victim for an unknown reason.
“It was random,” said Lt. Mike White, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station. “We don’t know why. It’s just a strange crime that is definitely out of the ordinary for the area.”
The suspect was identified as Julie Uyen Le, 22, of West Hollywood. White said deputies were called and took the suspect into custody “within minutes,” a short distance away from the location where the stabbing occurred.
The victim sustained a stab wound to the lower back and is recovering. Deputies recovered a small knife at the scene, according to the lieutenant.
White said Le will likely face a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Detectives are completing their investigation and are in the process of filing charges with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Le is being held on $30,000 bail at the sheriff’s department’s Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
