YWCA Greater Los Angeles (YWCA GLA) recently held its “The Rhapsody Ball” at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The event was hosted by the Society of Benefactrix, a special donor group that supports YWCA GLA programs. The ball is the organization’s main fundraising event, and it supports YWCA GLA programs assisting at-risk emancipated foster youth facing survival on their own, as well as other underserved individuals.
Funding generated at the Rhapsody Ball also supports a new partnership between Xerox Corporation and the YWCA GLA known as the Digital Learning Academy, in addition to programs such as workforce/youth development, sexual assault crisis services, child development and senior services. Honoree Cheryl Boone Isaacs (left), president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is pictured at the event with actor Sydney Poitier. Also recognized at the event were United Way of Greater Los Angeles president and CEO Elise Buik, and the Xerox Corporation. For information, visit www.ywcagla.org.
