Working Dreams will provide more than 1,600 gifts to foster children at its annual toy drive on Monday, Dec. 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott, Culver City.
The giveaway started more than two decades ago as a small annual toy drive organized by Beverly Hills entrepreneur Lola Levoy, a recipient of the “Congressional Award” for her advocacy on behalf of foster youth. Through her nonprofit organization, Working Dreams, Levoy annually collects gifts, clothing, toys and gift cards for children living with foster families.
“Statistics show that one out of five children in our nation’s foster care system lives in California,” Levoy said. “These kids can’t go home for the holidays, so it is important for all of us to do something to bring some happiness into their lives.”
There are approximately 24,000 children currently living in foster care in Los Angeles. The annual celebration is a fun-filled day for foster children and their families that includes dance contests, face painting, a DJ, food and more.
