A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced on Tuesday to three years in state prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

The defendant, John Augustus Rose II, 44, also must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a condition of the sentence. In October, Rose pleaded no contest to one count each of lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.

Deputy District Attorney Rosa Alarcon, with the Justice System Integrity Division, said Rose engaged in a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old girl from March 2013 through June 2013.

He met the girl through her family.
