Yoko Ono and Adopt the Arts present an exhibit titled “So This Is Christmas: The Artwork of John Lennon” on display from Friday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 14 at a pop-up gallery at 101 N. Robertson Blvd. in West Hollywood.
For 25 years, Ono has partnered with Legacy Fine Art & Productions to stage exhibitions to honor Lennon’s memory and celebrate his message of peace, love and truth. In bringing the exhibit to Los Angeles, the focus will be on introspection and how people have taken Lennon’s messages to heart in their lives.
The exhibit offers a unique opportunity to view Lennon as an artist — through his sketches and written words — in posthumous limited edition prints adapted from his original drawings and hand-written lyrics.
“When he passed away, I felt that it was my responsibility to make sure that his artwork was known. The thing is, most people know John as a musician and a writer, and he’s a brilliant one at that, but he was also a very good artist,” Ono said in a statement. “I am promoting John’s work because it’s John’s, but [also] because his work really gives … a sense of humor, a brightness of life.”
The exhibitions have become meeting places for Lennon’s fans, and offer a way to come together to share in his spirit through his artwork and songwriting.
The exhibit has changed throughout the years, but the message has always remained the same – “Imagine.”
The exhibit is being held in conjunction with Adopt the Arts, a West Hollywood-based organization co-founded by Guns N’ Roses drummer, Matt Sorum, that supports arts education programs in local schools.
The hours for the exhibit are noon to 8 p.m., Dec. 12; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Dec. 13; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 14. The pop-up gallery is located in a vacant storefront space at 101 N. Robertson Blvd. For information, visit www.adoptthearts.org or www.johnlennonartwork.com.
