Five suspects in two separate burglaries at luxury clothing stores in Beverly Hills have been arrested by the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Lt. Lincoln Hoshino, with the Beverly Hills Police Department, said the most recent arrests were made on Dec. 1 after a burglary at 347 N. Rodeo Dr. Undercover officers conducting surveillance during the early morning hours observed a white sedan pull up in front of a Gucci store on Rodeo Drive. One suspect got out and used a sledgehammer to smash a glass front door. The suspect then allegedly committed a burglary, re-entered the vehicle and fled.

A patrol unit was called and pulled the vehicle over a short distance away at Rodeo Drive and Wilshire Boulevard. Three suspects were arrested and later charged with commercial burglary. They were identified as Lamont Washington, 45; Rozzie Lee, 23; and Rachel Greene, 37, all residents of Los Angeles.

Hoshino said two other people were arrested on Nov. 22 after they allegedly attempted to burglarize a Fendi store in the 300 block of North Rodeo Drive. The lieutenant said guests staying at the Luxe Hotel across the street witnessed a suspect breaking into the store. They notified employees at the front desk, who called police. The suspect fled in a vehicle, but officers located the car a few blocks away near Robertson and Pico boulevards, and a brief chase ensued. The driver collided with a tree at the intersection of Spaulding Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard, and the suspects were taken into custody without further incident. They were identified as Michael Davis, 30, of Los Angeles, and Rondarius Cook, 23, who Hoshino said is a transient. Both men were charged with burglary.

Hoshino said it is unclear whether the suspects are involved with a burglary crew.

“You always suspect they are involved in other crimes, but proving it is something else,” Hoshino said.

Authorities from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division have also experienced sporadic window-smash burglaries in the neighborhoods bordering Beverly Hills, and are working with investigators to determine if the suspects in custody may be responsible for other crimes.

Lt. Mike White, with the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, said it is not uncommon for multiple burglary crews to be operating at the same time in the same area. Authorities in West Hollywood do not have any evidence linking the suspects in Beverly Hills to other burglaries. The window smash burglaries are primarily crimes of opportunity committed late at night or during the early morning hours, White said. Deputies in West Hollywood arrested two men on Nov. 22 after they allegedly burglarized a John Varvatos store near Melrose Avenue and Robertson Boulevard.

White said deputies responded to a burglary alarm at approximately 5:15 a.m., and arrested the suspects as they attempted to flee. They were identified as Curshay Henderson, 50, of Hawthorn, and Michael Smith, 53, of Santa Fe Springs.

“It is the only one I have in our area during recent weeks,” White said. “[Suspects] come to West Hollywood because of the high-end stores, and it very well may be a ring. I can’t say for sure, but the sledgehammer thing is not new.”

Det. Carmine Sasso, with the LAPD Wilshire Division’s burglary unit, said detectives are working with Beverly Hills investigators to determine if the suspects in one of the burglaries may be linked to a case in the Wilshire Division. Sasso added that the window smash burglaries in the Wilshire area have decreased during the last four weeks, which would correspond with suspects being in custody.

“We have an open case with similarities,” Sasso said. “I can’t say exactly what we are looking at, but we are developing leads.”

Sasso added that burglaries increase during the holiday season, and he cautioned the public to remain vigilant about keeping windows and doors locked.
