West Hollywood Elementary students assembled to give thanks and honor Veterans Day last week. A trumpeter performed “Revellie” to call the assembly to order and the UCLA Color Guard presented the U.S. flag for kids to say the pledge of allegiance.
The kids then watched a film and slide show of all their relatives who are veterans. A student introduced the film, noting the signing of Armistice in France between the Allies and Germany at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
Following the film, the children were entertained by New Direction Veterans Choir and a presentation of more than 300 cards created by the students for homeless veterans in the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Domiciliary program in Westwood was made. The assembly concluded with the trumpeter performing “Taps”.
