For the December holiday season, it’s out with the “H” and in with the “J” as West Hollywood becomes the West Jollywood.

The city council, at its meeting last Monday, approved the West Jollywood moniker to ring in some good-humored cheer during the holiday season, officials said.

The celebrations will begin on Black Friday. To support West Hollywood’s stores and restaurants, the city will waive parking fees for the first two hours in city parking structures and lots. In addition, the city will roll back parking meters fees to 1984 rates, 75 cents per hour, in commemoration of the city’s incorporation in November 1984.

Throughout December, Santa Monica Boulevard will be adorned with festive holiday lighting and décor from Doheny Drive to La Brea Avenue. City hall will be donned with holiday-themed ornamentation including wreaths and mistletoe throughout the building. During evenings, city hall will be lit with red-and-green or blue-and-white lighting in its lobby and atrium. The signs at city hall will also wear candy-cane shaped Jollywood “J’s”.
