Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky (center) and Malibu Mayor Skylar Peak (right) recently dedicated a new scenic overlook at Dan Blocker County Beach. They were joined by David Blocker (second from left), son of the late actor Dan Blocker, who appeared as “Hoss Cartwright” on the television show “Bonanza”, and other Blocker family members for the dedication. The facility along Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu was made possible through the donation of land by Blocker’s two “Bonanza” co-stars, the late actors Michael Landon and Lorne Greene, who originally purchased the coastal parcel and donated it to the State of California in 1979 for public use. The County of Los Angeles has owned the property since 1995, and operated the adjoining public beach, but funding and technical challenges hampered previous efforts to complete the overlook project. The facility will open to the public in mid-December.
