The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a small fire at Van Ness Avenue Elementary School at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday. No injuries were reported, and school operations were not disrupted.
According to LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey, a teacher who discovered the fire was evaluated for smoke exposure, but she was not transported to the hospital. He said the fire was quickly extinguished, but he could not specify whether school staffers or firefighters put out the fire.
“We were at the scene for less than a half an hour,” Humphrey said.
He said the cause of the fire, which occurred in a storage area at or near Room B11, is under investigation.
A Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman said only that the fire occurred when class was not in session and that the school will operate as usual. No additional information was provided.
