The Los Angeles Unified School District Board is hosting a free community swearing-in ceremony and celebration for new board member, Dr. George J. McKenna, III, on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon at Washington Preparatory High School.

McKenna will be joined by Congresswomen Maxine Waters and Karen Bass, Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Rev. Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Rabbi Steven Jacobs, youth performers, celebrities, elected officials, and more than 300 community leaders and invited guests.

Live performances will be held and the dignitaries will address McKenna’s career.

Washington Preparatory High School is the school at which McKenna, and his predecessor on the board, Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte, were principals.

A special celebrity guest will emcee the event, and entertainer Windy Barnes Farrell will sing the national anthem. The L.A. Third Children’s Choir from the L.A. Third Church will perform as well.
