A defendant from Los Angeles was sentenced on Sept. 9 to five years in state prison after he pleaded no contest to sexual battery charges for an incident aboard a Metro train in Koreatown earlier this year.

Danon Drake, 23, was also ordered to register as a sex offender. Last month, he pleaded no contest to two felony counts of sexual battery by restraint.

Deputy District Attorney Gloria Marin said on May 17, the victim was riding on a Metro Purple line train when the defendant approached and held the victim down and assaulted her. The victim was able to kick Drake and get away when the train came to a stop.

Drake eventually turned himself into Inglewood Police Department after his photograph, which was captured by a camera on the train, was made public.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau.
