RockSugar Pan Asian Kitchen has unveiled three banh mi sandwiches in celebration of National Sandwich Month in August. Banh mi is a beloved Vietnamese sandwich that is the culinary result of French colonialism in Southeast Asia. ‘LUCKYRICE’ Heads to L.A.
New York’s “LUCKYRICE Feast”, presented by Bombay Sapphire East, is coming to Hollywood tonight, Thursday, Aug. 7, from 7 to 10 p.m. The LUCKYRICE Feast brings together dozens of chefs and mixologists, serving authentic night market street food, innovative chef-driven dining and cocktails spotlighting the Asian food revolution. New Chef at Café Pinot
Joe Vasiloff has been named as the new executive chef of the downtown Los Angeles culinary landmark, Café Pinot. Vasiloff, a longstanding member of the Patina Restaurant Group family, previously worked as the sous chef at the group’s Ray’s & Stark Bar at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Kendall’s Brasserie in downtown Los Angeles. He also opened the Wine Bar at the iconic Hollywood Bowl. Before coming to Los Angeles, Vasiloff worked with chef Thomas Keller at Bouchon bistro. He is known for creating dishes that blend unexpected bold flavors with traditional French fare. August is National Olive Oil Month
The iconic French Riviera-inspired restaurant, Fig & Olive, is perhaps best known for its signature olive oils paired with each dish, and used in place of butter and cream. On Friday, Aug. 8, as part of National Zucchini Day, executive chef Pascal Lorange will create an olive oil and zucchini carpaccio as a seasonal signature dish. Lorange thinly slices zucchini from a farmers’ market with a mandolin to achieve a paper thin cut. Melrose BID Fun
The Melrose Business Improvement District will be hosting its first “FameFest BikeFest & Scavenger Hunt” on Sunday, Aug. 10 from 1 to 6 p.m. The event is a treasure hunt and art show that encourages bicycling. The Melrose BID will provide clues directing guests to participating retailers, where they will get a passport stamped and will be awarded prizes, including a brand new bike and gift certificates valued at $500.
Participants can receive their Scavenger Hunt Passport at in the Fame Fest Art Yard, located at 7761 Melrose Ave. Additionally, Bearwulf, DJ Mixter Ed and Chris & Maggie will perform live music at the FAME Yard, and Brandon Sopinsky, Eye One and Jennifer Korsen will conduct live mural painting.
