The entertainer known as Ray J was arraigned on Aug. 19 on charges of sexual battery and resisting arrest, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced.

Deputy District Attorney Candice Jan said Ray J, whose real name is Willie Ray Norwood Jr., 33, pleaded not guilty through an attorney to the four misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, vandalism, battery on a police officer and resisting/delaying a peace officer.

Norwood’s is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing on Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

The defendant was arrested on May 30 after he allegedly groped a woman at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel bar. Norwood then refused to leave the bar, according to the prosecutor. While in police custody, he reportedly broke a patrol car window and spit on an officer, the prosecutor added.

If convicted of all counts, Norwood faces a maximum  of four years in county jail. The case remains under investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department.
